Corn Maiden

Donna Eddy - Avidweaver

Donna Eddy is an award winning artist and retired art educator that resides in Rio Rancho, NM. Since 1996, Donna has been needle weaving necklaces, bracelets and miniature tapestries. Each piece, which goes through a long and tedious process. The center piece is chosen and fiber colors are selected, the weaving itself is created as the weaving is created. To begin a needle weaving the shape and size is laid out on graph paper. Small pins are placed along the top and bottom of the drawing, which attach the paper to homosote board. Waxed linen is wrapped around the pins, creating the warp threads. The waxed linen gives stability to the weaving which prevents the weaving from losing its shape. The weft threads are woven using a curved upholstery needle in a plain or tabby weave, with pearl cotton fibers. The piece can be washed if needed as the cotton fibers are colorfast and will not shrink. Once the weaving is done it is taken off the board and finished with beads.
