Anne Vickrey Evans - FeltCrafts LLC

Anne’s first introduction to felt was as a child visiting her grandparents in Norway where nearly everyone had a pair of felt boots. When a Danish friend was visiting in 1983, she learned how to make a pair of felt slippers using the Scandinavian felting technique for seamless wearables. From that point on, felt became a focus for her and she eventually wrote five books on felt making including wet felting and needle felting under the name Anne Einset Vickrey. In 1994 she wrote and appeared in two felt making videos with Victorian Video Productions which are available through Yarn Barn of Kansas. In 1995 Anne began developing felt making craft kits for children and eventually developed a line of 32 kits for children and adults under the trademark “FeltCrafts®”. In 1999 her “Little Felt People” craft kit received a Parents Choice Gold Award.

In 2011 Anne sold the kit and needle felting supplies part of her business to focus more on making felt wearable art. Her award winning work has been in juried and invitational shows. She has received the “Surface Design Association Award of Excellence”; The “Handweavers Guild of America Award for Outstanding Creativity and Craftsmanship in the Fiber Arts”; The Juror’s Choice award for “Best Body of Work” at the “Uncommon Threads Art-to-Wear Fashion Show” in Illinois in addition to numerous other awards. A collection of her work was at the Denver Art Museum during and after the “Spun: Adventures in Textiles” exhibit.

In addition to making wearable art, Anne and her husband, Don manage the FeltCrafts LLC business in Tierra Amarilla, New Mexico. The business provides felt makers with needle felting hand tools, rolling machines for wet felting and tabletop needle felting machines. The tools and machines have shipped worldwide to over 40 countries.

Anne’s work can be seen at “Artemisia” in Taos, the Taos Wool Festival and the Espanola Fiber Arts Center sponsored “Fall Fiber Fiesta”.
