Barbara Knupper - Artful Artisan
Barbara Knupper - Artful Artisan
It all started the summer when I was 8 years old. I got a bag of cotton loops and a little red metal frame loom for making potholders. By the end of that summer, I had the “potholder stand” in the neighborhood, the heck with lemonade!
Later in life I discovered there was more to it. I took a weaving course at Northern Illinois University, and saved like crazy to buy a loom. I wove fabric for jackets and ponchos, rugs, tapestries. I sold pieces at art fairs and to interior designers. I taught weaving classes. Then I found the “Webschule Sindelfingen” (a weaving school in the southern German town, Sindelfingen), and spent two years learning what I didn’t know I didn’t know(!) about weaving – technical and practical.
I believe that weaving is NOT rocket science. The technology is ancient; the loom is medieval. But the knowledge – the experience – of what happens when yarns and fabric structures meet is cosmic. So let your senses soak up the colors and textures.
Let weaving be a part of your world, too.
