Natasha Nargis
Description
Natasha Nargis/Textile Artist
After moving from New York City to San Francisco in the 1970s, I decided that I wanted to weave. In 1974 I moved to Santa Fe, where I still live and work. I knew nothing about weaving, but soon found a wonderful teacher in San Francisco, Kay Sekimachi. My mother made clothing, so textiles had always been part of my life — and I love fashion. Linen, silk and cotton are my favorite fibers. My handwoven pieces are also hand-dyed. Each fiber has its own way of absorbing the dye, so the possibilities are endless. Two of my favorite dyeing techniques are ikat and shibori. What I love most is opening a fresh eye and creating something new — and of course gorgeous.
